Mel's Magnificent Cheesecakes

How It All Started

Our story began in 1996 on the campus of Clark Atlanta University. Our founder, Jamel Fladger (a.k.a. Mel), was searching for a special gift he could give to impress his female crush. Being a college student with a frugal budget, he decided to use his cooking skills.

The First Cheesecake Hit

Mel baked a cheesecake, and it sealed the deal with his crush. Ironically, some of his dorm mates saw the cheesecake & requested a sample. They loved the cheesecake, asked for more, & even shared it with peers at the surrounding colleges. Mel began to charge for slices of cheesecake, and Mel's Magnificent Cheesecakes was born.

From Dorm Room to Stores

Mel's Magnificent Cheesecakes became so popular, around the Atlanta University Center (a.k.a. AUC), that Mel took samples to three stores in the area & secured deals with the owners to sell his cheesecakes.

The Sales Didn’t Stop

Mel's Magnificent Cheesecakes were sold in these stores until they permanently closed. Campus sales ended upon Mel's graduation. But that didn't stop people from enjoying MM Cheesecakes.

Cheesecakes in Two States

​Being a New York native, Mel often traveled back and forth between Georgia & New York. So, by word of mouth from his friends and family, he continued selling cheesecakes in both states.

​Pop-Ups, Bodegas & Beyond

Over the years, Mel's Magnificent Cheesecakes has served up magnificent tasting cheesecakes at community events, a couple of bodegas in the infamous LeFrak City community in Queens, NY, and directly to individuals and families. MM Cheesecakes has also held pop-up shop events in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Georgia, and Dubai.

We make traditional cheesecake flavors (i.e., plain, strawberry) and unique customer-created flavors such as Dyno-Bites cereal, Chico Stick, and Caramel-Strawberry. We also offer a variety of crust flavor choices. We use fresh fruits and popular brand-name ingredients.
